TMJ 037 - The "Homeless" Rapper Who Went Viral, Solow Redline
Description
The Music Journal Podcast is a show that documents trending musical events and topics as they happen. Our host, Wes Yee is a music producer and artist, himself. Because of this he’s been able to build an extremely broad network of amazing artists, musicians and people in the industry, and on this show he brings some of them on to chat about not only the trends, but also how you can apply them to your own career if you’re an aspiring music producer or artist.
If you've been on the internet, you may have seen the video that's gone viral over ten different times called "Homeless Man Raps In Chicago Subway."
It's in total accumulated around 70 million views, and it's unfortunate that few people know that the guy rapping in it is named Solow Redline, and he's been putting out music for years now!
In today's episode, we talk about how that video came to fruition, and how it blew up. There's a lot to the story that nobody knows, and one of the big things that surprised me was that the person who filmed it knew Solow Redline's name and information and didn't give him credit the first time it exploded.
Another thing that shocked me about the video is that it was 100% freestyled and completely off the top of his head. Solow is a rare breed of artists who can create all of his songs on the spot. He credits his ability to the fact that he HAD to do it and make it work to feed his children and survive.
We talk about the R. Kelly situation, being homeless, and what his future plans are. You can hear all about it in the episode, and Solow Redline is 100% someone you're going to want to be following in 2019 and the years to come.
